What is PANS and PANDAS?

PANS (Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome) and it's subtype, PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections), are disorders that occur when a child's autoimmune response to an infection or virus erringly attacks the brain.

The resulting inflammation can lead to the sudden onset of neurological, behavioral, and psychiatric symptoms, often including dramatic changes in mood, behavior, and personality.
